Óscar Muñoz

Infraleve

June – October 2025
MAMBO – Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, Colombia

Infraleve [Infrathin] is the first major retrospective of Óscar Muñoz at MAMBO in over three decades. One of Colombia’s most celebrated contemporary artists, Muñoz has built a singular body of work that meditates on memory, disappearance and the fragile nature of images.

The exhibition draws its title from Marcel Duchamp’s concept of the “infrathin”, a realm of barely perceptible differences and fleeting transitions. Muñoz’s practice finds resonance in this idea, as he works with ephemeral materials such as water, charcoal dust, steam and light to explore the instability of presence and the inevitability of loss.

Bringing together nearly thirty key works, including Aliento (1995), Archivo por contacto (2007) and El coleccionista(2016), the exhibition also features a new series created in 2025: Doomscroll, Lo demás es historia and Proyecto para un memorial. These works extend his lifelong inquiry into the visual traces of history and precariousness.

Infraleve is both a tribute and a renewed encounter with Muñoz’s poetic language, where images fade as they appear and remembrance persists in the act of vanishing.
